Harland Bau was built on hard work, integrity, and a passion for quality craftsmanship. The word “Bau” means “construction” in German — a tribute to Switzerland, where founder Stacy Harland got his first real shot in the trade and received hands-on training that shaped his career.

Stacy’s story began in Brossard, Quebec, where he and his brothers, still just kids, found themselves helping their single mother repair the crumbling foundation of their old family home. They had no clue what they were doing — but they didn’t have a choice. Hiring someone was out of reach, so they did what they could with what little they had. That experience left a mark on Stacy. It taught him perseverance and humility, but more than anything, it sparked a determination to learn — to understand the right way to build so he’d never be in that position again. After his mother’s passing in 2006, that drive became his purpose, leading him to master carpentry not only to take care of his own home, but to help others do the same with pride and confidence.

A Calling, Not Just a Career

Years later, after meeting his wife Jessica, Stacy was given a life-changing opportunity through his father-in-law, Mr. Theodor Nauer — a man he deeply admires for his generosity and selflessness. Mr. Nauer helped open the door for Stacy to work in Switzerland, where he gained invaluable experience in infrastructure, concrete, and large-scale construction projects such as tunnels, bridges, and sewer systems.

That experience taught Stacy the Swiss principles of precision, structure, and pride in one’s craft. It shaped his belief that every build, big or small, deserves excellence.

Returning home to Canada, Stacy completed his carpentry schooling, earned his journeyman certification, and worked across every part of the trade — concrete, framing, custom homes, and full-scale renovations. Over time, his heart found its home in finish carpentry, where artistry and precision come together to create beauty that lasts.

Together with his beautiful wife Jessica, Stacy continues to challenge himself to grow — as a craftsman, husband, and father. The two share a vision: to build something greater than themselves, to show their children that with faith, courage, and hard work, anything is possible.
